Permission to Play
Permission To Play
“Rest, nature, books, music . . . such is my idea of happiness.”
Leo Tolstoy
Well, I figure if that statement is good enough for old Leo it’s good enough for me! I was about to start another women’s online class when I read Leo’s words and thought: rest – summer – reading a book – doing music and taking the time to finish up my next CD – taking long walks in the woods – working in the garden… and I decided I needed to take a break. Ever since Covid hit I basically reinvented myself to go from speaking, singing, and facilitating retreats in person, to doing it all online. It’s been an amazing experience and I have learned so much, but I realized lately that I was feeling a little burnt out and needed a break.
I contacted all the women who had signed up for my class and we postponed it until the fall. Everyone was so supportive to me, and they realized they needed some time off too! I am doing a new behavior – doing some gigs but giving myself permission to enjoy the summer and rest and relax a bit! What a concept! I even just did something really radical and bought a paint-by-numbers watercolor picture – something I have never done before and a fun way to start practicing playing!
So, what do you need to do to give yourself permission to play? Let me know!
